Goose 可以当作鹅或是可以当作母鹅来解释, 而 gander 指的则是公鹅. 这句话的意思很明显, 齐头式的平等不是真的的平等, 我们要讲求的是立足点的平等. 这句话可以用在许多场合, 例如人家说：I just want it to be fair between you and me. 你就可以反唇相讥道, Fair for the goose is fair for gander?

题外话, goose 这个字是单数, 所以一般人看到一群鹅的时候通常会说 geese (鹅的复数) 这个字. 因为我就有一次听老美说 They are Canadian geese. 然后就反问老美, What's the difference between "geese" and "goose" (因为我一心认为那明明是鹅, 应该叫 goose) 结果那个老美都快笑翻了, 说 Goose is single and geese is plural.
